Assemblage in the Goodland
Welcome to Goodland Community Market. We’re so happy you’re here.
Goodland Community Market is more than a market—it’s a gathering space. A creative space. A community space. It's a new outdoor event that brings together local artisans, vintage collectors, small businesses, food vendors, and makers of all kinds to share their work in a thoughtful and inspiring environment.
But to really understand what we’re building, we have to go back a bit—to the roots of our story.
Goodland Community Market is born out of Assemblage, a creative collective founded by Henry Castelo in the heart of Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone. Henry has been working in the vintage and resale world for over 25 years, and long dreamed of creating a space where artistic expression and community connection could live side by side.
That dream came to life first through The Love Market, a weekly outdoor vintage market that launched in the summer of 2023. It quickly became a local favorite, bringing people together every weekend to shop, connect, and share ideas.
By fall of that year, we opened Assemblage—a brick-and-mortar shop and creative space that featured over 20 different vendors and a large showroom filled with the work of emerging and established artists. Assemblage wasn’t just a store—it was a hub. A place for people to gather, share, and support local creative businesses.
While our physical shop has since closed, the heart of Assemblage lives on. And Goodland Community Market is its next chapter.
Our mission is simple. We want to create intentional spaces where people can come together around art, craft, and community.
We know how much it means to walk through a market and find something that feels personal—something handmade, something storied, something created by someone who cares. We believe in the power of small businesses. We believe in building things from the ground up. And we believe that when people are given space to express themselves and connect, that is when we as humans truly thrive.
This market is about more than commerce. It’s about slowing down and showing up. About connecting with local makers and supporting people who put their heart into their work. It’s a space that encourages exploration, conversation, and creativity—for vendors and guests alike.
We’re incredibly lucky to host our market at The Steward Hotel in Goleta. Once part of the 19th-century estate owned by horticulturist Joseph Sexton, this 4.7 acre property holds so much history that the hotel has thoughtfully preserved much of its original charm—including the surrounding gardens and native trees. It’s a setting that feels peaceful, grounded, and deeply connected to the land. We couldn’t imagine a better place for the market to take root.
This is only the beginning. We hope Goodland Community Market becomes something that people look forward to. Something that feels like a true reflection of the people who live here and the creativity that runs through this region.
Thank you for being here. For reading this. For showing interest in something new. Whether you’re a vendor, a shopper, an artist, or a neighbor, we hope you’ll join us.
Stay tuned. We can’t wait to grow this with you.
